Drone Tamper

Harsco Rail’s Drone Tamper utilizes continuous action technology. The Drone Tamper converts a standard production/switch tamper into a high production, switch capable operation. A map of the tamped and un-tamped ties is transmitted via wireless radios from the lead tamper to the Drone Tamper. By increasing production rates and reducing operating costs, the Drone technology makes it easier to maintain your track.

Performance:

  • Production rate up to 1 mph
  • Works on wood or concrete ties
  • Ability to tamp unevenly spaced and skewed ties
  • Automatically starts/stops based on distance to lead
  • LED worklights for visibility at night
  • Rapid on-site set up. Less than 5 minutes

INNOVATIONS:

Continuous Action Workheads give the Drone the capability to tamp at speeds up to 1 mph. The independent slide control allows the workheads to tamp skewed ties without compromising production.

Wireless Ethernet Communication allows the Drone to communicate with the lead tamper. The lead tamper transmits a map of tamped and un-tamped ties to the Drone. Along with the tie data, all operator commands, calibration data, and diagnostic information is transmitted both to and from the Drone.

The AutoMag Tie Finder is the core technology that allows the Drone to operate as an automatic tamper. This system will work on both wood or concrete ties.

Utilizing both forward looking radars and a rotating time of flight laser, the Drone detects obstacles and automatically stops the machine.

The Light and Sound Bar provides travel lights, work lights, beacon and audible alarm.
